Innovative XR Solution for Berlin Police Operational Training

XR Technology Modernizes Police Training

HOLOGATE has secured the Berlin Police’s tender for the introduction of a virtual reality system for operational training. The Berlin police force will now rely on modern, flexible and efficient technology to optimally prepare their emergency services for real-life situations.

Demand for Modern Training Methods

The Berlin police force is facing increasingly complex operational scenarios and growing demands. Traditional training methods are reaching their limits: they are often cost-intensive, time-consuming and offer only limited flexibility to respond to current threat situations. In order to train their emergency services more effectively and realistically, the Berlin police looked for innovative solutions. Virtual reality offers the ideal solution here: it makes it possible to simulate a wide range of scenarios safely, flexibly and cost-effectively, thus bridging gaps in the existing training concept.

Advantages of Virtual Reality in Police Training

  • FlexibilityQuick adaptation of training scenarios; training possible anytime and anywhere.
  • Efficiency Reduction of costs and resources; wide range of training options in one system.
  • EffectivenessXR optimizes the “learning by doing” process; studies show significant improvements in learning outcomes.
  • RealismAuthentic simulations increase the quality of training and sharpen reaction capacity.
  • SafetySafe reproduction of any situation in virtual space, without risk to people or equipment.

Immersive Training Across a Large Area

HOLOGATE, via its HGXR division, will supply the Berlin police with the flexible and mobile HGXR M system. This VR solution can be used quickly and easily in different rooms and covers training areas of up to 1,000 m².

On its training area of 30 × 30 meters, the Berlin police force can move freely in an immersive 360-degree environment and simulate numerous police deployment scenarios – from urban areas to specific operational locations.

Leif Petersen, CEO of HOLOGATE, explains: “With the HGXR M system, we are offering the Berlin police a state-of-the-art training platform that can be customized to suit different requirements. This sets new standards for effective, efficient and realistic operational training.”

Software Specially Developed for Police Requirements

The HOLOFORCE BLUE software from HGXR has been specially developed for modern police work and offers an extensive library of applications and maps for a wide range of training scenarios. Realistic training environments, external factors and the precise representation of the command and operational resources (FEM) of the Berlin police are crucial for this.

Training sessions can be customized using the intuitive scenario editor. NPCs and objects can be placed using drag-and-drop, and weather conditions and times of day can be adjusted. Operational trainers can interact with the trainees in the virtual environment, increasing the realism and intensity of the training.

Digital twins of physical environments can be created using 3D scans. This allows the detailed simulation of critical infrastructure such as government buildings or public spaces. This flexibility makes it possible for the Berlin police to realistically train complex situations such as hostage situations as well as communication and de-escalation strategies.

After Action Review

An important feature of the VR system is the provision of functions that enable bespoke, swift and semi-automated training debriefing. The HGXR M system captures every training session in 3D and documents comprehensive data anonymously. Movements and actions can be analyzed from different perspectives and tracked as often as required. This enables a standardized and comparative exercise structure, which improves individual error correction and the comparison of trainees’ performances. This promotes the continuous skills optimization of the emergency services.

The Future of Police Training

The use of VR technology in operational training by the Berlin police marks a significant step towards modernization and effectiveness. The Berlin police intend to evaluate the degree of training optimization that can be achieved through the use of virtual reality technology, as well as possible savings potential. The implementation of the VR system is intended to increase the efficiency of training and conserve resources.
